Recently, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County invited county residents (ages 18 and older) to enter its “Colors of the World” Exhibition. Among the pieces juried into the exhibition is work by MCAG artists Monica Hawse, Rich Isaacman, Kimmary MacLean, and Jen Sheckels. Congratulations artists!
The selected works will be on display at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport between Concourses C & D in departures from July 22, 2019—November 14, 2019.
A new venture that will feature studio space for artists who jury in, as well as community-focused classes and events.
The mission of SoCo Arts Lab is to foster connections among artists and with the public and ignite the creative spirit in everyone.They offer dynamic workspaces where artists can create their own work and share the experience with others. The Lab plans to add further value to the community by offering opportunities for classes, lectures, and other community events in the coming months.
The Lab, whose founders include three Muddy Creek Artists, Lora Moran-Collins, Cary Eure, and Nancy Oliver, invites interested artists to consider membership and/or apply for juried consideration for one of their open studio spaces.
The Lab offers three levels of annual artist memberships:
Resident Artist ($100/year plus fees to lease studio space)
Associate Artist ($100/year)
Emerging Artist ($50/year)

The Lab welcomes members of all skill levels, whether actively engaged in artistic creation, just beginning to explore (or want to) their creative energy, or enthusiastically support and enjoy the creatives in their lives. The SoCo Arts Lab is a Maryland non-profit corporation, now in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status.
Resident Artist members at the new SoCo Arts Lab lease newly-finished studio spaces, featuring natural light and hardwood floors, as well as access to the community spaces.
Polar Fishing, by the ever-intrepid Patsy Card, was chosen for the juried 2019 National Small Works Competition & Exhibition. She was one of 127 artists and 430 entries. Of these, juror JD Talasek selected just 40 pieces for the show. Congratulations Patsy!
The exhibition will open atThe Washington Printmakers Galleryin Georgetown on August 1, 2019. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 17, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
